Ada’s Life Story
Ada McCoy was born a twin on December 25, 1920 to the late Robert Ferguson
and Oda Mitchell in Molena, Georgia. She was one of seven children born to this
union and the last surviving. She departed this life on Wednesday, January 23,
2019.
Ada attended the public schools in Georgia and graduated from high school.
Ada was employed in various positions, working as a Nurse’s aide at the
University of Pennsylvania Hospital and Jefferson Hospital just to name a few.
Ada later met and married the late Ellis McCoy. To this union nine children were
born. Six of her children preceded her in death, James, Ricky, Ronnie, Glen, Fay
and Regina.
Ada loved to cook and clean. She enjoyed shopping and later in life, was the QVC
Queen always having her packages delivered. She was the matriarch of the family.
Loved family gatherings and having her family all around her. She was very spicy
and full of flavor. She loved sweets and her favorite cakes came from Deacon
David Frazier.
Ada united with the New Hope Temple Baptist Church on September 25, 1989
under the Pastorate of Rev. Dr. John Coger. She was later appointed to the
Mothers Ministry and was also a member of the Women’s Club.
Ada leaves a legacy of love, compassion and a unified family.
Ada leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Joan Newton; two sons, Larry
and Calvin McCoy; eleven grandsons; ten granddaughters; forty-six great
grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Sallie McCoy-Gray and Denise McCoy; and a
host of great- great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
