Annie Mae Thomas née Johnson 95 years old of Jasper, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday March 4, 2020. Annie Mae was born on October 9, 1924 in Jasper, Florida to Gus and Ollie Johnson née Robinson, who were better known to the family as Poppa and Big Mama. Annie Mae committed herself to the Lord at an early age. While living in Philadelphia, she was a faithful member of the Deliverance Evangelistic Church. She and Oscar Thomas were united in holy matrimony in 1944. They migrated to Lancaster, Pennsylvania and later settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. To this union, five beautiful daughters; Annie, Myrtice, Corrine, Essie, and Shirley were born. Together, Annie Mae and Oscar were known for opening the doors of their home to family and friends who needed a meal, a place to stay, or fellowship.
Annie Mae was an excellent seamstress. She worked for many years and later retired from Goodlad, a children's clothing company. Annie Mae enjoyed making clothes for her children and grandchildren. She even had some success with her own much sought-after children’s clothing line, which she sold to her friends, family and neighbors. Annie Mae was known for her hospitality. If you needed food or clothing, she would give you what she had. She loved to cook for her family and regularly hosted Holiday and Sunday dinners that were feasts fit for kings. On any given day if you dropped by the Thomas’ house Annie Mae would always have one of her famous fresh baked apple pound cakes, corn fritters waiting for her guests, and a cabinet full of Brach’s candy and Snickers for her grandchildren. Annie Mae loved children, it did not matter if it was her grandchild, niece, nephew, or neighbor she always had room in her heart and home for them. Annie Mae was full of love. She gave it freely and that love was reciprocated by many. Later in life after her husband Oscar passed, Annie Mae moved back home to Jasper, Florida where she desired to live the rest of her days to be close to her family's farmland and surviving brothers and sisters.
