Carletha Cannon

November 5, 1956 — January 15, 2019

Carletha Norma Mae Cannon was born November 5, 1956 to the late Carlton Sr. and Mazie Cannon in Jonestown, Maryland, where she was delivered by her grandmother, Ida Carr. She departed this life on January 15, 2019 at Delaware Hospice. She was 62 years old.

Carletha received her early education at Preston and Jonestown elementary and graduated from Colonel Richardson High School in 1974. She moved to Easton, Maryland and worked for Celeste and Black and Decker for a short period of time. She also became a member of the Elks while in Easton before relocating to Dover, Delaware. Carletha attended Delaware Technical Community College, majoring in Human Services and she graduated in 1995. After graduating, she worked at PEAK and assisted children who needed extra help in school. She later worked as a substitute teacher in the Capital School District, which she loved, until she became unable to work.

Carletha was an active member of Whatcoat United Methodist Church and served as a member of the usher board and volunteered during the summer programs. When she wasn’t working or involved in church activities, she enjoyed playing cards and traveling with her sister Regina. Though she lived a full life, the highlights of her life were her grandchildren. She was known for dressing them alike or making them put on matching clothes and colors and getting pictures taken together every chance she could. After becoming sick, she devoted all her time to keeping her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She supported everything her grandchildren did and made them believe that they could do anything and everything they put their mind to do.

Carletha was preceded in death by her father, Carlton Cannon, Sr.; her mother, Mazie L. Cannon; her brother, Dallas Johnson; and her sisters, Arlene Hamilton and Regina Manley.

She is survived by her two children: Carlos Cannon Sr. (LeFeisha) of Magnolia, Delaware and Caressa Moore (Franklin Jr.) of Charlotte, North Carolina; eight grandchildren: Carlos Cannon Jr., Talea Cannon, Avonte Cannon, Darlazia Brooks, Jasir Glover, Radiem Glover, J’Arrah Moore, and Justice Austin; two great grandchildren: Tahiry Hammond and Donald Brown Jr.; four brothers: Carlton Cannon Jr., Kendell Cannon Sr., Michael Cannon, and Kenny Batson; one uncle: Rudolph Boyce of Preston, Maryland; a devoted friend Reginald Sullivan Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
