Clarence George Thombs was born to the late Upston and Florence Thombs on March 13 , 1937, in
Cashew Walk, St. Catherine, Jamaica. He was the fourth of five children, all of whom preceded him in
death.
Clarence obtained his formal education at Tulloch Primary in St. Catherine and Mulberry Primary in
Hope Well St. Mary. He developed a passion for farming at an early age, which continued into his adult
life. His farming led him to the level where he started exporting his produce to different countries.
While pursuing his passion, he left Jamaica on several occasions, on the Farm Work Program.
Eventually, he migrated to the United States of America, where he lived a very productive life. He
worked at different jobs including being the Managing Director of several apartment buildings. He also
worked at the famous Bookbinders Restaurant in down town Philadelphia.
In the early eighties Clarence (Bro Thombs) became a member of the Woodbine Avenue New Testament
Church of God, now located at 2227 Bryn Mawr Avenue.
On special events the church could count on him to prepare his delicious curried goat! Another favorite
treat was when he brought Strawberry Cheese cake. He was a dedicated and supportive member of his
church and will be missed by his church family.
Clarence leaves to mourn his passing; his loving wife Volrey, two children (Kaniya and Kharee), step-
daughter Judith, adopted sister Alfreda Chatman, god –daughter Tasha, nieces, nephews, cousins,
special friends and church family.
May his soul rest in peace!
