David Roberts affectionately known as “Dave” was born to Marlene D. and William Roberts Sr. on August 11, 1963 in Philadelphia, PA. David was raised in the Raymond Rosen Projects of North Philadelphia by his loving mother as the sixth of eight children. The power of prayer was instilled in the Roberts home. At the age of three, while in prayer, he was called to preach.
In David’s adolescent years, he was trained to serve in the Youth Rally Ministries under the leadership of his Mother. David was musically inclined. He played the drums, guitars of all kinds and had a voice to sing. David had a passion for those his age and formed a group called the “David Roberts Specials”.
Dave was educated in both public and private schools graduating from Saints Academy, a Christian school in Lexington, Mississippi in 1981. He pursued higher education by attending Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA. David had a quiet disposition, which led to him to study psychology focusing on the behavior and the minds of people. In August 1982, David joined the United States Army. After serving three of years, in August 1985, as a E4, specialist- Military Policeman, Dave received an honorable discharge.
In 1982, David became a father to the first of three children: two sons, David Lamarr Roberts, Devin L. Roberts and one daughter, De’ja Lauren Roberts.
David was a fitness enthusiast; he would work out anywhere he could find a gym. Fitness was his daily routine, and he enjoyed it! He was known to send text messages with funny emoji’s and corny jokes. It was enough to make us laugh. In serious times, he shared his thoughts with his siblings. He had a way of expressing certain things and knew he would get the needed response from them.
David’s life consisted of up’s and down’s, but the Lord always raised him up.
He had a kind heart and was willing to help those that experienced the same things he did. He loved his family, and he loved the Lord.
In David’s latter years, he was determined to keep it moving and help as many as he could. He moved to Allentown, PA and was truly happy that the Lord blessed him to meet Paula Dorset. With a new focus on life, with the help of the Lord, in 2019, David proposed to Paula Dorset and was to be married on June 20th, 2020.
On Sunday, December 15th, 2019, David took his journey home to be with Lord, and our champion is at rest with the Lord.
