Edna May Howell was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 1, 1928 to the late Carroll Jackson and Annie May Tunstall. She received her education in the Philadelphia Public School System. Edna began her full-time working career as a Nursing Assistant in a Delaware Nursing Home. She was later employed at the Corporate Office of Pep Boys where she worked as a Print Shop Operator until she retired.
Edna became a Born Again Christian early in life and eventually became a member of the Deliverance Evangelistic Church where she was a member of the Sunrise Choir and Ministerial Support Team. She eventually became a faithful member of the Beloved St. John Evangelistic Church where she was an official member of the Mothers Board. Along with activities of community service, she was a Judge of Elections for her Voting District for many years as she enjoyed meeting and working with people. Edna loved her immediate Family as well as extended Family and Friends very much. She would often call them to do well-being checks or to just chit-chat. She would befriend strangers wherever she was and end up walking away with them giving her a hug and calling her “Mom”. Overall, Edna loved our Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus Christ most dearly.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband George Howell, 3 siblings: Edward, Dorothy, Albert and Son-In-Law Curtis Hayes. She leaves to cherish her memory: 5 more siblings along with 6 children: Louise, Wendell, Denise, Marie, Valerie, Pierre and Gregory, 7 grandchildren: Jerel, Melissa, Tiffany, Crystal, Edward, Justin, and John along with many great grandchildren and 1 great, great, grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. A special acknowledgement goes to Mrs. Ethel Breakiron Bowser who has been Edna’s Best Friend for over 60 years and to a Beloved Daughter-In-Law Rebecca.
