Elizabeth Ann Mickle was born on June 22, 1930 in Winston, South Carolina, the only child of the late Charlie Mickle and Bernice Anthony. She departed this life on Tuesday, March 10, 2020.
Elizabeth was educated in the Camden, SC. In her youth Elizabeth affectionately known as “Ann” was an energetic young lady who enjoyed school, and extra curriculum activities. As a young woman she met and married the late Thomas Dinkins, Sr. and for a short time while living in the south they raised three sons together. In the late 1950s Ann and her three sons re-located from the South to Brooklyn, New York, and subsequently Philadelphia, PA. After moving to Philadelphia, Ann worked many jobs to support her three sons. She eventually obtained full-time employment in the Temple University Hospital’s Cafeteria where she worked as a dietary representative. Ann took great pride in her work at Temple and made many close friends during her employment.
For many years Ann enjoyed hosting Christmas dinner for her close friends and family at her home. She would spend many hours in the kitchen cooking and baking dishes for everyone to enjoy on Christmas Day. She also had the house beautifully decorated with Christmas décor.
In the early 1990s Ann retired from Temple University Hospital after over 30 years of service. She enjoyed her retirement life and participated in many activities at Center in the Park (Germantown) a facility known for allowing socialization for the elderly. In addition, she enjoyed spending time in her home ensuring that everything was beautifully decorated, well- kept and most importantly in good order.
Ann was a no nonsense person who took care of her business and emphatically loved her children. She will be missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis “Butch” Dinkins and Thomas Dinkins, Jr. Leaved to cherish her memory is her oldest son, Donald Tyrone Mickle, 7 grand-children, 35 great-grand- children, 7 great, great grand-children and a host of other family members and close friends.
