Ethel McLean

January 15, 1934 — June 17, 2019

Ethel L. McLean was born on January 15, 1934 to Leslie Carmichael and Woodrow W. McLean in Little Rock, South Carolina. Her young years were spent in Little Rock with her mother until her mother’s demise. At age 10, Ethel was reunited with her father and Mother in love, Emma McLean who had moved to Richmond, VA. The family relocated to Jersey City, NJ; then settled in Philadelphia, PA in 1947. Ethel was enrolled in public school where she attended Robert Vaux Junior High School.

With her winsome smile, Ethel had a love for people that led her to work after school as a "Mother’s Helper". During her teen years, Ethel along with her family joined the Walter Memorial AME Zion Church, then, at 12th and Oxford Streets. Later in life, Ethel joined Mt. Tabor AME Church where she was active until health challenges slowed her down. She was known as a ”great” cook and could always be happily found in a kitchen making meals that many, many people enjoyed and requested that she prepare especially for them. Ethel was the proud mother of thirteen children.

William known as "Junior", Leslie, and Gregory, along with her brother George and her parents preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her love and memory her sister, Barbara and husband David, Brother Theodore. Her children; Alva known as ”Joycie”, Barbara and husband Ralph, Marlene and husband Howard, Patricia and husband Victor), Kenny, Yvonne and husband Calvin, Michael, Renee, Tanya, Woodrow and wife Kate. Daughter-in-law Barbara, plus a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces & nephews, "play children," many cousins and special friends. Sorrowfully Submitted The Family
