Franklin Avery

June 16, 1937 — September 26, 2015

Franklin E. Avery, age 78, died on Saturday, September 26, 2015
Franklin was born in Onancock, Virginia to the late Ida Butts. He was educated in the Accomack County School system. Frank relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he met and married Shirley Avery, his best friend. From this union, they had 3 children. Philadelphia is where Frank worked for Conrail Railroad with over 30 years of service. He demonstrated that matrimony truly agreed with him, as he lived his life as a dedicated husband and father.

Franklin was a god-fearing man, and although always happy and chuckling, he was also a very spiritual man. He loved and enjoyed a good church service. Known for his many nicknames, and stylish hats, he was the life of any gathering or party. While battling lung cancer for several years, Frank was strong and never complained. He was thankful for the love and support from everyone and very proud of the care and devotion he received from his children. However, Frank was often sad and lonely because he missed Shirley, his wife of fifty six years who just recently passed away on June 21, 2015. They are now together forever.

Franklin was preceded in death by his son, Richard. He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Michelle and Francine; one son-in-law, Vernon; one uncle, Mitchell; two granddaughters, Shantell and Shaqonda; two grandsons; Simmy and Jaseem; one great granddaughter, Deja; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and his "buddy" Matthew.
