Fred Echols was born in Auburn, Alabama on February 22, 1924 to Pinky Echols. He departed this life on November 19, 2015. Fred was drafted into the army in 1943 where he served until 1945. After leaving the army he moved to Tiffin, Ohio.
Fred met and married his devoted friend and devoted wife Verona Hawthorne in 1962.
Fred was a very proud long distance truck driver and people would say to him "How can you drive such a large truck as small as you are?" He drove for Donco Company of Chicago for 25 years. He retired and then drove a school bus for 6 years in Philadelphia for Durham Bus Company.
Fred was a quiet man of few words but he had a warm heart and was always smiling and answering 10-4 to your questions. He became ill in 2002 and received home care and later resided in a nursing home. When they would have entertainment, he would hear the music and pat his feet and clap his hands while trying to sing along.
Fred leaves to cherish many memories with his wife of 53 years Verona Echols. He also leaves his brother George of Alabama, daughter Betty Williams, two grandchildren, Christy Walton and son-in-law Tony Walton, Kevin Williams and daughter-in-law Cheryl Williams, two great grandchildren, Dionna Williams and Syreena Brown and extended family Victor Chavis, Valena Chavis, Valentine Chavis, Lil Leroy and a host of family and friends.
