Life story of Gregory Wayne Hutchinson

Gregory Wayne Hutchinson “Buddha” was born November 24, 1963. He was the second of seven children born to the late Harold Hutchinson and Violet Fields Hutchinson.

Gregory attended the Philadelphia Public School system and graduated in 1983 from William Penn High School where he competed on the wrestling team. After graduation, Gregory entered the work force of the United Parcel Service. In 1988, he took a job with the School District of Philadelphia where he was employed for 31 years.

In 1990, Gregory accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Philadelphia.

In 2001, during his first union his son Gregory Wayne Hutchinson Jr., Also known as “Gee” was born.

Gregory’s favorite line was ‘it’s about me and my son’. He loved his son Gee deeply, advising him often to stay focused and be strong.

Gregory attended True Light Fellowship Church and later, in 2010 he became a member of Beloved St. John Evangelistic Church under the leadership of Pastor Clement M Lupton III. His prayer was to become an active member in his new church. At his new members graduation Pastor lupton laid his hand on Gregory’s shoulder and gave him the charge to join the security ministry. Post 2 is where Gregory faithfully stood and you could often see him shadow boxing the enemy especially when pastor preached on something he’d recently studied in the word.

In 2012, a chivalrous offer to fix a young ladies flat tire began a 7 year friendship with Lisa whom he affectionately called "Ladybug". Throughout their friendship and marriage, they enjoyed spending time together at Penn's Landing, yearly jazz and gospel-fest, beaches but most of all quiet time "together". With joy, on June 16, 2018 Greg Hutchinson and Lisa Barnum were joined in holy matrimony. "Mr. Mr." as Lisa affectionately called Gregory had finally found his one true love.

Gregory enjoyed working and earning a living. Shortly after their wedding, for the first time in 31 years Gregory was forced to take time off of work as he began a 9 month battle with rapid illness. Gregory, with his sparring partner Lisa, valiantly and honorably fought utilizing the word of God as their mightiest weapon. He took high and she took low and together with God they were able to overcome each obstacle.

Gregory was preceded in death by his brothers Jeffrey, Derrick and Darrell Hutchinson.

Gregory is survived by his loving wife Lisa Barnum Hutchinson; one son Gregory Hutchinson Jr.; two stepdaughters, one step son, two sisters, Lawanda Allen and Michelle Hutchinson; one brother Harold Hutchinson Jr.; a brother in-law Dana Barnum, Mother-in-law Ms. Alice Barnum; one extraordinary uncle Michael Hutchinson (Luz) and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and his Beloved St. John Evangelistic Church Family.
