Janet Marjorie Meadows, 82 years old, born Janet Majorie Hackett, of Philadelphia, passed away on February 11th, 2020. Janet was born in Philadelphia (South Philly) to be exact, to parents Margaret and Howard Hackett on June 25th 1937. Janet went to school in the Philadelphia public school system. She was always known to be strong, independent, thoughtful and kind. She married her childhood sweetheart in 1953 and started a family with Harold Lowery. With this union, they were blessed with six children (Lavern, Harold Jr., Anthony, Tyrone, Angela and Darryl. They moved the family to Germantown, where they resided until her husband passed away.
Janet worked many jobs to support her six children.
As mentioned earlier, she was strong and very independent. She worked at Sears for over 30 years and during this time she met her soulmate, Charles Frank Meadows. They spent every minute together. He created a safe and loving place for her. After Janet retired from Sears, she worked as an assistant teacher at UCPA from 1994-2006.
Janet and Charles were exemplary spouses. They provided a welcoming home to everyone who needed it. They were married for over 25 years until he lost his battle with cancer in 2006.
Janet enjoyed cooking and making sure her grandchildren were clean as a whistle (not to mention) powdered from head to toe. Janet would always tell stories of how she was never sick as a child. Even later in her life she would always recover quickly after surgery or an illness. She was always so resilient.
Janet is survived by her sister Catherine, children Lavern, Harold Jr., Tyrone, Angela, and Darryl as well as many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and cousins, nieces and nephews.
