Jeannette Bernadette Thompson was the only child born to the late James Baggette and Emma Smith Baggette on May 15, 1943.
Very quietly and peacefully, on Friday, November 17, 2017, “Almighty God” in His infinite wisdom gently closed the eyes of our beloved daughter, mother and grandmother and called her home from labor to reward.
“Gram”, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, enjoyed reading all sorts of books. Jeannette also enjoyed sewing, doing crossword puzzles, going to the Casino with her BFF’s Hattie & Lucille and spending time with family. The thing she enjoyed most was spending every waking moment with her great grandbaby, Royal Skyy. Their favorite things to do was to play hide & seek, dress up and hair dresser. One thing that gave her joy was when Royal would say to her “Gram your hair is nappy come sit down so I can do it ”… That would tickle her so much.
Jeannette received her formal education at South Philadelphia High School where she graduated with honors in 1961. She later then attended Manna Bible Institute with her former husband Pastor Elvin Thompson. She received her degree and became proficient in the Word of God, which afforded her the opportunity to become a Christian camp counselor and a Sunday school teacher. Jeanette recently became a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where she continued her walk and resumed teaching Sunday school up until her passing.
Jeanette was a woman who wore many hats. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years. As the neighborhood Mother, she took great pride in caring for her six adopted sons: Gary, Rinny, Greg, Derrick aka Lucan, Andre and Dewitt.
Jeannette was employed at an early age with Philadelphia Child Guidance in South Philadelphia. She later became an employee at the Presbyterian Hospital for many many years until her retirement. She later found pleasure in working as a cashier at the National Constitution Center in Center City Philadelphia where she enjoyed meeting new people and giving directions to historic sites in the city she loved so dearly.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her favorite aunts…Helen, Lydia, Trudy and her greatgrand child No’Lee Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two sons Russell Thompson and Norman Thompson, Sr.: four daughters: Anita, Joy, Rasheen and Nicky: six grandchildren, Arthur, Russell, Nikita, Norman, Keon, and Karaan: great grandchild, Royal Skyy Peterson; a host of uncles, cousins, sergeant grandchildren, family and friends.
Mother will be Sorely missed… But Heaven is made Glad with her Presence.
