Jennie Anderson

May 29, 1929 — March 14, 2025

Jennie Lee Adams was born in 1929 in Richmond, North Carolina to Matthew Adams and Martha Worth. Jennie's mother later remarried Mr. Paul Maske Sr., expanding the family with the addition of Paul Jr., Roosevelt, Mary Jane, Robert, Isaiah, Betty Jean, and nephew/brother Willie.

After moving to New Jersey, Jennie married LF Covington, and they had six children together - Alex, Carol, Bennie Lee, Gloria Jean, Larry, and Ruby Lee. Jennie later remarried, this time to Leonard Anderson, and they settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Jennie gave birth to four more children: Leonard Jr., Regina, Michael, and Marvin.

Jennie worked for several years at the Botany 500 company on Broad and Erie Streets. In 1971, she and her husband Leonard Sr. relocated their family from North Philadelphia to the West Oak Lane neighborhood. Jennie later earned her GED and a cooking certificate.

Jennie was a dedicated member of Saint Joseph's Baptist Church, serving in various roles such as choir member and usher. She later transitioned to Deliverance Evangelistic Church, where she continued her service under Pastor Benjamin Smith's leadership. Jennie sang in the choir until she developed a throat problem, at which point she shifted to the usher board, diligently fulfilling those duties until she could no longer do so.

Deeply devoted to her faith, Jennie embraced spreading the word of God as her life's passion. Her favorite hobby was distributing religious pamphlets at busy intersections like Broad and Olney, which she considered a second job, proudly declaring, "I'm working for the Lord." Even when she could no longer go out, Jennie would tuck the pamphlets into return envelopes and mail them to local businesses. She also enjoyed traveling and learning.

Jennie's loved ones who passed before her include her parents Matthew Adams and Martha Worth, her stepfather Mr. Paul Maske Sr., her husband Leonard Anderson Sr., her siblings Paul Jr., Isaiah, and Mary Jane, and her sons Bennie Lee and Marvin and granddaughter Jennie Davis. However, she is survived by her siblings Roosevelt, Robert, and Betty Jean, as well as her nephew/brother Willie. Jennie's children - Alex, Carol, Gloria Jean, Ruby, Larry, Leonard, Regina, and Michael. Her in-laws Torrence L. Love Sr., Donna Jones-Anderson and Janice McClain, her grandchildren Craig Ruffin II, Melisa Borda, Michael Anderson II, Marcee Anderson, Ebony Anderson, Jamar Rose, Kellen Anderson, Antonio Anderson, Alicia Anderson, Kierston Victoria, Karima Johnson, Lisa Derosa, Yvonne M Boykin, Darnell Anderson, Tamara Randolph Anderson, Latoya Anderson - and numerous great-grandchildren, and other extended family members. Though we will deeply miss Jennie's physical presence, she will forever remain in our hearts.
