Larry Smith Sr.

December 2, 1951 — September 22, 2020

Larry Donell Smith age 68 born to the late Wilhemina Morton Smith and the late George Edward Sr in Greenwood SC. Larry D. Smith 2914 N. 20th street Philadelphia Pa, widow of Mildred Davis-Smith passed away on September 22, 2020 at Einstein Medical Center after a lengthy illness. You wouldn't really know if he didn't tell you, Larry had a great sense of humor and always in good spirits. It isn't over until God says it's over, so god sent down the death angel for his son. Larry was preceded in death by daughter Kristi Nicole Andrews on October 11 2013, three sisters Lottie McDowell, Loretta Griffin, Julia Ann Hackett. Larry was baptized at an early age at Mt. Zion AME church. Larry was educated in the South Carolina public school system, he attended Elementary school Promise Land, Brewer Junior High, He graduated in 1970 from Brewer highschool, being the last graduating class of the school. Larry migrated to Philadelphia in the 70´s, Larry loved playing softball so much that he joined Amtrakś softball team. He loved to play his guitar, he learned through online videos and also took lessons from a fellow guitar player, he knew his strings, frets and how to hold his fingers, pluck and strum, he loved himself some BB King. He almost had a song I could hear from our basement or from the bedroom over the phone, Larry shared his love of guitar with our grandsons Maurice and Jasim buying them their first guitar and teaching Jasim to play. Larry had several jobs, he drove the school bus in Greenwood SC and in Philadelphia, He worked for Medow Lane BBQ on Broad street, and his last job as a lineman at Amtrak which he started November 25 1983 until his medical leave into retirement in 2013. Larry met Mildred Davis in 1980 they became great friends and later married on April 9 1988, together we had one son Larry Donell Smith JR.

Larry was a strong man and never gave up on anything, not even after his amputation, he proved to Amtrak that he could still fulfill his duties as lineman, he was determined to climb those poles to get to those wires and bell towers, oh how proud I was of him, he worked until he couldn't work anymore, his battle is over now but he still has the victory. Larry leaves to cherish his fond memories wife Mildred, sons Larry D. Smith Jr, Teddy, daughter Freda, five Grandsons Maurice Andrews aka Reese, Jasim Tylee Smith, Dantae,Marquise (preceded in death), and Eddy, three granddaughters Seyani, Seyara and Eliana.
