LAURA BELL JONES was born on May 18, 1934, to the late James and Virga Harris, in Anderson, South Carolina. Laura, who was affectionately known as GG, Mother Jones, Jones, Gram, Jonesy and host of other names, relocated with her family in the late 1950’s where she was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system and graduated from William Penn High School.
Laura met and married her late husband James Jones, affectionately called “Baldeeni” and from this union, their three children were born, Angela Sutherlin (preceded by her in death), Deborah Barkley and Norma Smith.
Laura was a faithful and long standing member of Trinity Independent Church where she served the Lord, the church, it’s leader and members tirelessly until her health failed. Mother Jones was loved by all members of her church family and her presence will be sorely missed.
Laura reigned with a tough hand but a loving heart….she displayed her love through her loving and encouraging words, scriptures, prayers, hugs and to never ever be forgotten….. her delicious meals.
Laura “lived her life to LIVE again”.... she has left this world to be reunited with her mother and father, her five siblings, her daughter, Angela Sutherlin, and her fifth grandson Vincent Smith Jr., which have preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two very devoted and loving daughters Deborah and Norma, a devoted son, Stanley Barkley, two son-in-law’s, Richard Sutherlin and Vincent Smith Sr., eight grandchildren, Sharon, Andre (Rewa), Derrick, Stephen, Orin(Rainelle), Regina, James, Eric, ten great grandchildren, Mariah, Sahron, Stephen Jr., Derrick Jr., Alyssa, Dhmyni, Gabriel, Isaiah, Mia, Mya, one great-grandson Amaj a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
