Lindwood Kitchens, Jr. affectionately known to most as “Lenny” was born in Philadelphia on March 27, 1960. He is the son of Lindwood Kitchens Sr., Rosalie
Kitchens, and Juanita Bartley. In addition to his loving parents, Lenny was raised by his grandmother, Clara Ortiz aka “Gramama”, and his uncle, Arthur Baker.
Lindwood or “Lenny” was a man of exceptionally strong faith. He was baptized at an early age and he regularly attended In The Light Ministries in his later years. In
his early life, he received his education through the Philadelphia School System. After he completed his formal education, he began making his way through life. In
his journey, his employment included time with A&P and Superfresh. He also spent many years employed as a butcher and bouncer, respectively. Lenny was a
hardworking man who was dedicated to his endeavors, his friendships, and his family. He showed his spiritual commitment by giving and sharing his resources
including his time and finances with those he cared for and also his community.
In 1990, Lenny met the love of his life, Shawn Johnson. The two were married August 21, 1993, and it was through this tht union he became the father to Marcus
and Marquita. Lenny rose above and beyond the call of fatherhood, and the joy and love he experienced as a father was only superseded by the joy and love he
experienced as a grandfather to Zakiyah, Nakiyah, Mahiyah, Ethan, and Malaiyah.
Lenny was a man of imposing stature that was only overshadowed by his gentle nature and bold personality. In his personal life, he was a man’s man; a lady’s man,
he is –
“Lenny Love, if you callin’ my phone, you know who I am. Like I tell you once before, I call all women back ‘cause I love all angels, and I got to call them back first, so
don’t take it personal. I ain’t got nothing but love for y’all too” And that love was vast!
In addition, to enjoying fatherhood Lenny was an avid fan of The Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Giants. He enjoyed playing cards, talking trash, and hanging
with his best friend Fred “Ice” Sanford. He looked forward to the annual Father’s Day Cookout at Whittier Playground where he could unite with the “Deuces”.
We, the family believe that our Lenny who was full of love is presently with his Lord and Savior returning the calls of all of his friends and families that have gone
before him. Of course, starting with the ladies first.
Lenny leaves memories to cherish: his wife Shawn; his mothers, Rosalie and Juanita; his mother-in-law, Jennifer; his children, Marcus and Marquita; his
grandchildren, Zakiyah, Nakiyah, Mahiyah, Ethan, and Maliyah; his 9 siblings, Anita, Rochelle, Valerie Ann, Darnell, Leslie, Valerie, Paulette, Mark, and Jarbar; 3
sister-in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, the Tillman family, his extended 25th Street Family, and friends.
Lovingly Submitted, The Family
