Louis Carter

January 19, 1959 — August 4, 2024

In loving memory of Louis Carter

Louis James Carter Jr., lovingly known as "Man and Pop-Pop" was born January 19th, 1959, in Miami, Florida. He was the first boy among twelve siblings. He shared over 34 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Michele. Louis was the father of 3 children, Terisha Carter, Brandon James Carter, and Briana Nicole Carter.

Louis was educated in the Philadelphia school system. He worked for the Philadelphia Water Department, owned an automotive and towing shop with his partner Roland Kimble. He also worked for the U.S. Navy, Marine Corp, and Airforce in the Department of Transportation. He received multiple accolades for his attention to detail, strong will, and professionalism.

Louis was a man, characterized by patience and flexibility enabling him to embrace the role of a military spouse for 34 years. Louis held his family down, supporting his dear wife through 2 deployments, multiple duty stations, and traveling across five continents. He loved exploring new cultures, food, and beverages. Louis was also a quick learner; his big sister, Hazel, taught him her banana pudding recipe which he perfected and became known for the best banana pudding dish in Maryland and North Carolina.

A man of many talents and passions, he was always the life of the party and known for bringing the family together. You knew he had arrived if you were offered some food and Military Special- the good stuff. Louis loved to fish and crab and was well known by his brothers, nephews, and friends for his ability to direct different hands-on projects (if bossy was a person!!!)

Louis leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife Michele Yvette Carter; three children: Terisha Carter, Brandon James Carter and daughter in law Janessa Carter, Briana Nicole Carter and son in law David Tobi John Ogan; four grandchildren: Aria Rose Adesuwa Ogan (Baysby), Deon Amir Carter, Kyro King Carter, and baby Carter; eleven siblings: The late Lucresia Mills (Leroy Mills), the late Hazel Kimble (Roland Kimble), Marvin Carter, Richard Carter (Rose Carter), Denise Carter, Richard Brown (Jacquelyn Brown), April Carter, and Terrance Carter, Hattie Williams (Wesley Williams), the late Shirley Carter, and the late Catherine Lawrence (Leroy Lawrence), 5 in-laws: Barbara Allen, Michael Williams (Muriel Williams) and Jerome Allen (Alicia Allen), nephews, nieces, and a host of other family members, friends, and neighbors.

Louis was a man who always took his responsibilities to heart and walked like he talked. He is loved, respected, and revered by family and friends. His impact and legacy will continue to live on in our lives. REST IN PARADISE, MAN.

His family has captured their words in this beautiful poem:

God looked

God looked around His garden

And found an empty place.

HE THEN LOOKED DOWN

UPON THE EARTH

AND SAW YOUR TIRED FACE.

He put his arms around you

AND LIFTED YOU TO REST.

God's garden must be beautiful

HE ALWAYS TAKES THE BEST.

He saw the road was getting rough,

And the hills were hard to climb,

So, he closed your weary eyelids,

AND WHISPERED

"PEACE BE THINE".

It broke our hearts to lose you

BUT YOU DIDN'T GO ALONE,

For part of us went with you

THE DAY

God called you home

"Trinx"
