Mary Sanders-Wilson

Mary Alice Sanders-Wilson was born in Leesburg, Florida on July 10, 1939 to Sarah Alice Sanders and Preston Lee Walker. She departed this life on March 17, 2016.

Mary was baptized at an early age at Mount Hebron Baptist Church in South Philadelphia.

Mary received her education in the public school system graduating from Edward Bok Vocational High School. She studied dressmaking and tailoring.

After graduation, Mary Alice worked for a factory as a single needle operator for many years. Mary Alice worked in a restaurant in Center City as a waitress. She worked as a housekeeper at Bryn Mawr College for over fifteen years where she retired in 2010. While at Bryn Mawr College, Mary Alice wrote a collection of poems that were recognized where she won a Poetry Award in 2008.

She met and married Robert Wilson. Mary Alice had three children: Rhonda, Ronald and Robert. Robert predeceased Mary Alice in 1989.

Mary Alice enjoyed cooking and music.

She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Ronald Sanders; one daughter, Rhonda Sanders; one grandson, Laron Sanders; three great granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
