Matthew "Matt" Cummings, born on October 6th, 1942, to the late Pete Sr. and Mary Cummings, passed away on February 11, 2024. His life, rich with love, friendship, and passion, leaves an indelible mark on those who knew him.
In his youth, Matt's heart was captivated by the written word, finding solace and joy within the pages of books. Yet, his spirit was equally drawn to the camaraderie of companionship, relishing in the company of friends and the thrill of cheering on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers, Sixers, and Phillies.
As the years unfolded, Matt's journey led him to the embrace of Florence Hanes (Berel), his cherished confidante and beloved "babe." Together, they shared countless moments of laughter and affection, finding sanctuary in each other's presence.
Following his graduation from Simon Gratz High School in 1960, Matt embarked on a new chapter in New York, where he nurtured his talents within the bustling realm of the restaurant industry. It was there that he honed his skills and cultivated lasting connections, leaving an indelible impression on all who crossed his path.
In 1975, the call of home beckoned, guiding Matt back to the streets of Philadelphia, where he continued his journey within the realm he knew best, the restaurant business. It was amidst the bustling kitchens and lively dining rooms that he found fulfillment and purpose, pouring his heart into every dish and every interaction.
Throughout his life, Matt's warmth and generosity endeared him to countless souls, his unwavering devotion leaving an enduring legacy of love and kindness. Though he may have departed this world, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Matthew was proceeded in death by his father Pete Cummings Sr.; mother Mary Cummings; sister Dorothy "Dot" Allen Beckton; sister Sally "Frances" Johnson; sister Marylin Johnson and brother Robert Cummings.
Matthew is survived by his two grandchildren Monique Wisdom Grimes (Bobby Grimes) and Kenyatta Day of Houston TX; brother Pete Cummings Jr of Philadelphia PA; sister Annette Kaiser (brother-in-law Gregory Kaiser) of Houston TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
