Michael J. Beauford was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 31, 1941 to Douglas A. Beauford and Eugenia Wells-Beauford. He departed this life on November 12, 2017.
Michael received his education through the Philadelphia Public School System. He graduated from Roman Catholic High School in 1963. He continued his educational journey at Cheyney University where he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in 1968. Michael completed graduate courses at Temple University. In 1975, Michael graduated from American College where he completed Graduate Studies in Life Insurance.
Michael worked for many years with the Philadelphia Public School District where he was an elementary school teacher. He retired in 2002. Michael also worked as a Insurance Agent with Equitable Life Insuance Company. He served as a member of many professional organizations including the Beloved St. John Evangelistic Church’s Community Development Corporation, the Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation, Beloved St. John Evangelistic Church’s Executive Board, Philadelphia Corporation for the Aging’s Clergy Interfaith Coalition, Hannah’s House Inc., and Einstein Health Center Community House for Seniors.
Michael was a committed community servant, and he received many awards. On May 29, 2009, State Senator Shirley M. Kitchen presented Michael with a citation for his exemplary citizenship and work in the community. On September 27, 2014 Philadelphia City Councilwoman Cindy Bass presented Michael with a citation for his tireless efforts and dedicated service to his community. On November 21, 2015, Pastor Michael Robinson presented Michael with the Senior Citizen of the Year Award for his outstanding Servant Leaders in ministry and the community at large.
Michael met the love of his life Brenda Lloyd in 1981. They were joined in holy matrimony June 14, 1986. He loved spending time with his “Mookie.”
Michael accepted Christ at an early age. He joined Deliverance Evangelistic Church under the Pastorate of late Reverend Benjamin Smith, and served there for approximately 16 years. Michael then felt led of God to join Beloved St. John Church Evangelistic Church in 1997 under the leadership of Reverend Clement M. Lupton III. He served faithfully in ministry in many capacities including Deacon, Church Coordinator, Elder and Community Liaison.
Michael enjoyed going to the movies. He also enjoyed collecting money for various events.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Eugenia Beauford; three brothers Joseph Beauford, Philip Beauford and Douglas Beauford; and one grandson Travon Beauford.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Brenda Beauford of Philadelphia, PA; his 4 children: Teresa Beauford of Philadelphia, PA, Michael (Aisha) Beauford Jr. of Sicklerville, New Jersey, Terrence (Shannon) Beauford of Mount Holly, New Jersey, and Shawnekia Beauford of West Covina, California; one step-son Sherman Mitchell of Philadelphia, PA; 7 siblings: Juanita E. of Philadelphia, PA, Bernard Beauford of Philadelphia, PA, Lucille Beauford of Philadelphia, PA, Sister Mary Stephen, OSP of Baltimore, MD, Thomas (Beverly) Beauford of Knoxville, Tennessee, Charles (Mary) Beauford of Raleigh, North Carolina and Jerome Beauford of Winston Salem, North Carolina; 2 grandchildren: Devon Beauford of Lansing, Michigan and Tevon Beauford of Lexington, Kentucky; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
