Biography of Mildred L. Davis

On Monday November 7, 1921 at 1:30 PM at her home in Columbia, South Carolina, God blessed this world with a beautiful baby girl named Mildred Louise Jackson. Born to the late Hattie and Edward Jackson, she was the second child born to that union. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Baltimore, Maryland. Ms. Jackson began her early education in Baltimore but because of the unexpected death of her father the family moved back to Columbia, SC. Ms. Mildred completed here education and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1939.
After graduation she began her journey, she moved to Philadelphia to live with her aunt and came to know the Lord in 1940 . She worked numerous jobs while living in the area. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Holiness Church under the leadership Bishop Ida Robinson. She soon met the love of her life John Davis and was married in 1941 in Columbia, SC. Once her husband completed his tour in the Army, they returned to Philadelphia in 1945 to make their home. Out of this union came six beautiful children, Rebecca, John, Michael, Yvonne, Mark and Tamar.
In 1967 tragedy struck the Davis family when John died unexpectantly and Mrs. Davis became a single parent. With the help of God she raised her children to become good members of society. In 1970 Mrs. Davis who loves to sing began touring with the Jubilee Singers, singing gospel music to children and adults in school assembles around the country. Her touring lasted for approximately three years. After returning home Mrs. Davis continued singing gospel music with The Mortonnaires and working diligently in the church

Mrs. Davis later joined Gethsemane FBH Church in 1945 and was called to the ministry. She sang on the gospel choir and was part of the ministerial department. She has served as vice-president of the missionary department for many years and held that position until the end of her life. Reverend Davis was ordained as a minister of the gospel in 1987 under the leadership of Dr. Carrie R. Canty. In the year 2000 she was ordained as a Deaconess under the leadership of Elder Herman Sanders. She was known in the community as the "Junk Yard Preacher".
Mrs. Davis worked for many years as a domesticated engineer to support her family. She has been a blessing to many families in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey areas. Finally in August 2008 she was retired by the last family she had served for nearly thirty years Gerry and Esther Rehavi. Just as Mrs. Davis has served her God with loyalty so she did with the families she worked for.
Mother Davis fought the good fight of faith. She lived by faith and not by sight as so many of us have seen in her daily walk with the LORD. Job well done for years served working in the vineyard as she blessed so many young, old and the young at heart. Mother Davis was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, two sisters in law, Herman, (Earline) Jackson and Calvin, (Sarah) Jackson and daughter Yvonne Davis.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, five children, Rebecca, John, of Philadelphia, PA., Michael (Patricia) of Norfolk, VA, Mark (Marge) of Philadelphia, PA., and Tamar Jefferies of Winston Salem, NC. Eight grand- children, with special mention of three devoted care takers Sencera Bolds (Ernest), Charisma Warrick (Fred), and Nichol Trolio, Nineteen great-grand- children, seven adopted children ; Pastor Yvonne Hine of North Carolina, Cynthia Speight of Maryland, Helen Card of Virginia, Larry Quarles, Wendy Jones, Dora Haley and Deaconess Patsy Spady of Philadelphia. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and the Golden Girls, Pastor Thelma Lawrence, Mother Mary Lee Smith, Mother Geneva Spady and Mother Myrtle B. Williams. The loving family and friends of the Village.
