Mrs. Effie Lee Monroe was born on June 8, 1928 in Moultrie, GA. She was the sixth of eight children born to Henry and Marie Monroe.
EFFIE received her early education in Moultrie, GA and her secondary education in Pittsburgh, PA. She moved from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, PA in 1944.
EFFIE accepted Christ at an early age. Later, she rededicated her life and became a member of United Evangelistic Church, where she attended until her health failed.
EFFIE married the love of her life, Clarence Johnson on January 27, 1949. To this union six children were born, Richard, Marvin, Carolyn, Kenneth, Michael, and Yvonne.
EFFIE was a stay at home mom who was devoted to her husband, children, family and friends. She was a mom to all of the neighborhood children and enjoyed feeding them. She enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone who came by. People would come from miles around to enjoy her homemade cornbread and biscuits. She was a home body, but enjoyed entertaining and feeding her guest.
EFFIE was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings; Inez, Mabel, Frank, Lillian, James and Robert and four sons.
Effie Johnson leaves to cherish her loving memories to her husband of 70 years, Clarence Johnson, two daughters, Carolyn Bruner, Tuskegee, AL and Yvonne Burks, Philadelphia, PA; eight grandchildren, Christel Hagins, Tuskegee, AL; Marvin (Mioko) Johnson, Coatesville, PA, Tony (Tania) Johnson, Killeen, TX, Markhan Hagins, Montgomery, AL, Andre Johnson, San Jose, CA, Shawn Burks, Philadelphia, PA, Tamyra Burks, Tuskegee, AL, Sheronn Burks, Philadelphia, PA and Joan (Lee) Kelley, Killeen Texas; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, one sister, Margaret Marshall, Philadelphia, PA, two God sons, Richard Stowe and John Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
