Oliver Foster Ancrum, Sr. was born to Ruby Lee Ancrum and Willie James McCray on September 7, 1944.
“Ollie” as he was known by everyone, went to both Catholic and Public Schools. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School.
Ollie served in The United States Army from January 1966 to January 1969 receiving an Honorable Discharge with the rank of SGT E5.
He met his wife, Sandra Scurry in 1965 and was united in marriage in 1969. She preceded him in death on October 9,2014.
Ollie had many jobs. He was a truck driver, cab driver, school bus driver, auto salesman, auto mechanic and maintenance engineer. He was also in the Bar business for over forty years.
Ollie was the oldest of eighteen children, eleven boys and six girls.
Sisters: Jacquelyn Weaver-Carolyn Henry-Gayle Howard and Patrienna (Charlie) Green. Brother: Herbert McCray-Sidney (Evelyn) McCray- Lett McCray -Larry (Kim) McCray- Reginald McCray Vernon Bess.
He was preceded in death by: Cynthia McCray- Gracie Belle McCray James Levester McCray -Ralph Bess - Frank Bess 3rd Dewayne Bess and Lorenzo Ancrum and Shawn Eloise Ancrum.
Ollie was a Master Mason with Bethel Lodge #47. He became a thirty-twodegree Mason with Charles E. Gordon #65 also a Shriner member of Pyramid Temple #1 and a member of Charles Young Post #0682.
He leave to cherish his memories: four daughters, La’Keisha Ancrum Williford (Damon), Janean Pinckney (Terry) and Dana Ancrum; two sons, Oliver Salley and Oliver Ancrum Jr.; a grandson he and his wife raised from the age of 3 weeks, Sean Ballard; six grandsons; two granddaughters and six great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
