Robert Coates

Robert V. Coates was born on March 6,1931 in Philadelphia,PA to the late Alice and John Coates. He was their only well loved child. Robert was educated in the Philadelphia School System and graduated from the Simon Gratz High School. At an early age, Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and knew the Hol Bible front to back.

Robert began his career in a missionary school, until he met the love of his life, Etta. He became a professional drummer, performing with several famous artists, even having his own band the" Bob Hampton Trio". Oh, how he loved to play his "drums" and various other instruments; as well as singing and joking around. Robert worked for Buds for over 25 years.

On July 12,1949 Robert was united in Holy Matrimony to Etta Mae; from this union six children were born: five daughters; Lucinda, Barbara, Rochelle, Alice and Sharon and one son, Darryl. Robert was a very proud and loving to his children. He was affectionately known as "Daddy, Grand pop,Bob,Bobby and Bob

Hampton". He loved to break bread with his family, taking the out to eat at expensive restaurants and going to Chester,PA for special made Italian hoagies. Robert enjoyed talking about the Bible with everyone. He had an affectionate bond with his grandchildren, especially Curtis Coates.

In October 2015, of 2015 Robert became very sick and on May 5,2016 he was called to be with God.

Robert was preceded in death by: his parents Alice and John Coates, wife Etta Coates, daughter Lucinda Coates, son Darryl Coates, three grandchildren: Cyrie, Jeaneen and Christopher and one great grandson Ronald. Robert leaves to cherish his loving memories; four daughters: Barbara,Rochelle,Alice and Sharon, Twenty eight grandchildren, Sixty four great grandchildren and Thirty great great grandchildren, a significant other Loretta Lucas , a special friend Audrey Allen and a host of cousins and friends.
