Robert David Jennings (Rob), was born September 30, 1959 to the late Ella Lee Pageant and the late George M. Jennings, Sr. Rob was educated in the Philadelphia School System, graduating from Murrell Dobbins High School and Computer Learning Center.
Rob spent 4 years in the Army, where he traveled around the world. He received an honorable discharge and returned to settle in his home town of Philadelphia. Rob was employed by Allied Universal and previously worked for H & H Banquet Hall and Comcast.
In his spare time, Rob enjoyed singing karaoke at family gatherings and playing his bass guitar. Rob loved music. You could hear him blasting his music for hours. In his younger days, he was a member of a band and a DJ. Rob also enjoyed dancing, tinkering with electronics, playing pinochle and spending time with his family.
Rob loved food. He would sit down with a plate of food stacked high and two minutes later that plate would be empty, without a crumb in sight. Not only was he a fast eater, he was a neat eater.
Sports played a big role in Rob’s life. He loved basketball, football, boxing and baseball. Back in the day, he had an excellent hoop shot. Rob would see a neighborhood basketball game going on and he would yell, “I got next”.
Many may be surprised to learn that Rob had a green thumb. He would work in the yard, play in the soil and tend to his plants resulting in a garden that was admired by many. Rob also had several house plants that he regularly trimmed so they wouldn’t touch the living room ceiling.
Rob had a broad smile, a hardy laugh and a helping hand that will be missed by everyone he touched.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Ella and his siblings: Mary, Barbara, Helen and George Jr.
Rob leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Sheila; daughters, Rechee Jennings and Shandia Roberts; son-in-law, Muhammad Cannon; grand children, Saniyyah, Sabria, Paris, Milan and MyRese; mother-in-law, Sandra Trueheart; siblings: James Jennings, Randall Jennings, Ella Patton, Charles Jennings, Betty Ann Custis and Brenda Jennings; brother and sister-in-laws: Marie Jennings, Diana Jennings, Katherine Jennings, Thomas Custis, Anthony and Silvera Jenkins, Daryl Trueheart, Gregory and Latasha Trueheart, Dorthel Roberts, Donald Govens, Anthony Wiggins, Regina Webb and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
