Roy Belcher

December 17, 1947 — December 25, 2016

Roy Lee Belcher, Jr. was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 17, 1947 to Roy Lee Belcher, Sr. and Gertrude Belcher. He departed this life on December 25, 2016.

Lovingly referred to by friends and family as “Butch” or “Uncle Butchie,”Roy received his education in the Philadelphia school system, graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School. He also attended various trade schools for mechanics. After graduation, he served in the Army and fought in the Vietnam War, receiving an Honorable Discharge. After serving in the armed forces, he worked for the Teefy Pontiac automobile company and SEPTA as a mechanic for a number of years until his retirement. eHe met and married Bertha Mae Tucker. To this union, 3 children were born: Roy Lee Belcher III, Crystal Belcher Brown and Brian Keith Belcher.

Roy was a music enthusiast. He played lead guitar and loved to sing and dance at family functions. A military sharpshooter, he was also a guns and ammo aficionado and enjoyed target practice and collecting fire arms. He also enjoyed mechanical tinkering, having the latest gadgets, deep sea fishing, watching old western movies and, until his health no longer permitted, gathering with family and friends.

The youngest child and only son, Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Sr. and Gertrude, as well as his sisters Virginia, Betty and Carol.
He leaves to cherish many memories: wife, Bertha; 2 sons, Roy and Brian (Keith); daughter, Crystal; daughter-in- law, Shanna; son-in- law, Tim; 5 grandchildren, Roshaun, Jah’leel, Celeste, Brianna and Kiara; devoted companion Delores Fulton, and a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
