Sheila Day was born on December 28, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Robert and Betty Mayrant. She was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and graduated from Simon Gratz High School.
Upon graduating high school she married Horace Day whom she had known since Junior High School. They married on December 4, 1965 and their loving union remained strong until Horace’s death on October 29, 2020. From their union they were blessed with two children Robert and Tiffany.
Sheila dedicated herself to the needs of her family while Robert was young. Later, she began working for the Philadelphia School District as a Noon-Time Aide while Tiffany was in elementary school. Being around children brought Sheila great joy and she remained in this position until her retirement due to health issues. Her time with the School District brought forth great lasting friendships many of whom she remained friends with until her passing.
In her and Horace’s younger years they enjoyed spending time with life long friends from 22nd Street including Kathy and her late husband Tommy. One of Sheila’s favorite pastimes was playing the lottery, especially the scratch-off tickets, and you could find her on any given day watching Law and Order SVU, Blue Bloods, Golden Girls, and Everybody Loves Raymond.
In 1995, Sheila had a massive heart attack resulting in open heart surgery and in later years was diagnosed twice with breast cancer and survived. In 2014, due to various complications with her heart, her health began to decline. Until her death she received excellent care from Dr. Gina Simoncini, Dr. Jamie Fineman, Temple General Internal Medicine, Temple Cardiology, Mercy Home Health, and Visiting Nurses Association. Also, in her final days Inez Johnson, Clara Johnson, Jarzette Dobson, and Gwen Anderson provided comfort and care to her and support to the family.
Sheila passed away peacefully on January 6, 2021 joining her loving husband of fifty-five years. She leaves to cherish her memories her son Robert and Daughter Tiffany. Her Sister-In-Law Geneva. A host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
