Obituary
Shelvy Erving was born on August 3, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Claire Rollerson and Thomas Daughtry.
After valiantly fighting serious illness for many years, she departed this life in the early morning of Friday, August 20, 2021. She was one of seven children, three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Shelvy was educated in Philadelphia public schools and worked for many years as a caregiver, or in food service positions. She was a hard worker, and her services were always in demand.
In 1972, Shelvy wed Odell Erving Sr. and of this union, three children, Odell Jr, Michael and Shirelle were born. She was a devoted mother, excellent homemaker, housekeeper and cook. Shelvy was very meticulous about the cleanliness of her home, aside from being an excellent homemaker and cook. Shelvy was the best cook in the neighborhood. Her food would leave taste in your mouth, that will have you yearning for more and she will feed anyone. In addition to caring for her own children, she was a loving grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, friend and neighbor to many.
As a faithful member of Triumph Baptist Church, she attended services whenever her health allowed her to and served on the Senior Usher Board. Shelvy loved her church and church family. She also enjoyed spending time and travelling with her Birthday Club, who cherished her feisty spirit and great sense of humor.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Odell Erving, Jr, Michael Erving, and Shirelle Patterson (William); 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; former husband, Odell Erving, Sr; one sister, Doris Williams; five sisters-in-law and three brothers in-law; special sister friend Linda Harrison and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, wonderful neighbors and friends.
