Shirley Louise Brown was born to the late Bernard Brown, Sr and Mary Louise Brown-McCrae on September 5, 1953 in the city of Philadelphia, Pa she brought joy to her family.
Shirley was educated in the Philadelphia School District and graduated from Simon Gratz High School. During her attendance there she played baseball and played she did up and down the court like you never seen before. Her quickness earned her the nickname "DOWNTOWN BROWN". She didn't stop there loving sports she played softball and volleyball for Connie Mack recreation center.
She was employed as a cashier for the old Greyhound bus terminal. She was a member of Second Antioch Baptist Church in her early childhood under the leadership of the late Davis DeBrady, Pastor. During adulthood her first child Corey was born and in life Derek.
Shirley also was a choir bird and member of Piney Grove B.C. under the leadership of Pastor Robert H. Paul. Later she made her spiritual home at Greater Faith Missionary B. C. Theodore R. Nicholson, Pastor.
She loved her church family and even her bad days she pressed her way if her ride was late she would be upset. She was a part of the Beautification Ministry, People Help Ministry and the Tun Soldier Pastor Aude Ministry. She loved her family and would do anything for them. Her love she share was a blessing to those who was around her. She was funny, fiesty and straight to the point. Her famous saying was "MY THING IS".
Shirley enjoyed her life and tried to fight through her illness but the battle wasn't hers it was the Lord he saw she was tired and he fought all those things that was trying to take his daughter when the battle was over he took her hand in victory on Saturday, August 4th with her family at her side.
Shirley memories will be cherished by her two sons: Corey O. Brown(Jaline), Derek Gregory Brown(Tamika), sister Carolyn Brown, brother Bernard Brown Jr., three grandchildren: Corey, Derek, Jr., and granddaughter Dallas, three nephews Damon Brown, Cartee & Chance Brown (of Statesville, NC) a campion Richard Wiggins, a host of cousins and friends and extended families.
