Veda Lynn Harley was born on June 12, 1955 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Margaret and Henry Harley. She departed this life on November 22, 2019 at the age of 64.
Veda received her formal education in the School District of Philadelphia and graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1972. Upon graduating high school Veda was briefly employed within the License & Inspection unit by the City of Philadelphia, where she made many life long friends. She continued her career in government, joining the Veterans Administration (VA), where she worked for over 35 years. During her tenure, she received numerous awards for outstanding service. At the VA, she was beloved by coworkers, medical staff and patients. She was affectionately referred to as the “Jazz Queen.”
Veda had a life-long love of music. During her formative years she attended the Settlement Music school where she received flute instruction. She had an extensive music collection that spanned all genres of music, but her favorite was jazz. She had an ear for up and coming talent and all who knew her knew that she would be at the Hampton Jazz Festival every year in June.
Veda’s favorite pastimes were shopping, traveling, driving long distances, attending concerts & shows. She was in her element when she was able to combine all of those! Veda was very generous and always willing to help family and friends. She had a big heart and loved all children and they loved her.
Veda leaves behind her sister, Dolores, niece, Tressa, grand-nephew Joshua, a host of cousins in Charleston, South Carolina, Godson, Michael, and many extended family members in South Philadelphia from the Cutright family tree.
