She was affectionately called “Mom” by her children, ‘Bambi’ ‘by her nieces and nephews and “Vi” by her friends. Mom was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and always prayed. She worked for the Philadelphia Parole Board as a dictaphone typist until she resigned to care for her mother full time until her death.
On February 25, 1956, Violet and Joseph W. Howard Sr. were united in holy matrimony; to this union, four children were born. She was very diverse, loved music and broadway plays. She acted in various plays and belonged to the Heritage House now known as Freedom Theater. One of her favorite quotes was “Will The Real People Please Stand Up!”. Mom was witty, tough and sometimes misunderstood, but she overcame many adversities and loved her family.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, son; David Howard, and husband; Joseph W. Howard Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children-Joseph W. Howard Jr; Linda Howard- Cook, (Otis Cook), Joanne Howard; Grandchildren – Quantel, Kwanza, (KeAndra), Nadira, Tariq, (Cheresa), Najma, (Rashaun), Nakia , Marchea’, Ronald, Tahira, Kristen and Ian. Great Grandchildren- Nylah, Nasir, Jaden, Jada, Jordyn, Rahmir, Rian, Makayla, Iain, Ivory, Arian, Lebarron, Laia, Isaiah, Cameron , Camaya and Erin. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
