William Isaac Dixon was born on March 5, 1937 in Halifax County, Virginia to the late Henry and Henrietta Coleman Dixon. He received his education in the Public Schools of Halifax County.
At an early age, William was baptized and attended County Line Baptist Church of Vernon Hill, Virginia.
William came to Philadelphia in 1956 looking for work opportunities and resided for a period of time with his sister Flossie Hendricks. In 1958, he met and married the late Viola Scott, and to this union one son was born, Roger. William became a member of the Nazarene Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board for many years.
During his early years in Philadelphia, William held many jobs from packing newspapers to welding sheet metal at the Ralph Sica Company. In the mid-sixties he began attending night school at Rev. Leon Sullivan's newly created Opportunities Industrialization Center where he studied electronics. Upon his graduation he was hired by the James J. Biddle Company in 1967 where he worked until he retired in 2003.
William was an avid bowler and he also loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. However, his passion was electronics. He would spend hours in his workroom troubleshooting and repairing equipment. Even in retirement, he was often called to consult on or perform repairs on high voltage equipment. He also loved spending time on the computer playing cards and chatting with friends.
He is survived by his son Roger Dixon; daughter-in-law Catherine Mellon-Dixon; one sister Flossie Hendricks; two brothers Thomas and Robert Dixon. William will be remembered as a caring Father, devoted to family, a dear friend to many, and a loving Uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
