William Fletcher

August 23, 1947 — February 29, 2016

"And God shall wipe all tears from your eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain." Revelation 21:4

William "Bunnie," "Bill," "Fletch" Fletcher, Jr. was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 23, 1947 to Thelma Logan and the late William Fletcher, Sr. At an early age, Bill and his family became a part of the Alleyne Memorial AME Zion Church family, under Rev. Lomax. In his latter years, he joined Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, under the pastor ship of Rev. Alan Waller.

He received his formal education in the Philadelphia Public School System; graduating from Overbrook High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force, during the Vietnam War; receiving an Honorable Discharge for his service.

After serving his country, Bill transitioned from soldier to scholar. He received a certification of Lab Science: Phase I and II from the United States' Air Force (USAF). He graduated from Cheyney University with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Biology and Biochemistry, received a Master's of Science in Administration and Organizational Development from Antioch University, and a certification in Computer Programming from Maxwell Institute. Prior to his medical set- back, he was matriculating towards a PhD in Applied Mathematics at Wilmington University.

As you can see, Bill embraced academia. He LOVED teaching math. He taught math at the Community College of Philadelphia, Bryn Mawr College, and Howard University. Bill said, "Out of all of the schools I've taught at, CEP (an alternative school in Philadelphia) was the most rewarding."

Bill loved to travel and experience new things. Many of you may have seen him any where in Philadelphia, riding his bicycle.

Bill married Sharon Lawrence and from this union four children were born. For well over 30 years, they lived their vows as God ordained, "For better or for worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health" til death parted them.

God saw the road was getting rough, his bike was hard to ride. On Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10:27am, God gently closed Bill's eyes and whispered, "Peace be thine."

He leaves to cherish his life a devoted wife, Sharon, son, David, daughter, Shameka, son Stephen, and daughter, Shané "Ladybug," mother, Rev. Dr. Thelma Fletcher, brother, Larry, sister, Rosalind, grandchildren, RJ, Riley, Reid, and Raelyn, cousins, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
