William Roberts, Jr. was born on October 6, 1956, in Philadelphia, PA to William Roberts, Sr. and the late Dr. Marlene D. Talley. William grew up in the Raymond Rosen Projects in North Philadelphia. He was surrounded by a host of sisters and brothers and a loving Mother. He grew up and was trained to serve in the Youth Rally Ministries under the leadership of his Mother. He faithfully supported churches with his ability to play his bass guitar. Because of his love to serve, he enlisted others to be a part of his bands and events he played in. Billy (affectionately called) was a person filled with love and it was exemplified throughout his entire life. He was musically inclined and always shared his talents with others. Billy had a way of reaching others that were less fortunate. He would give the clothes of his back to anyone in need. With his outgoing personality, people were drawn to him and many excepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior. Billy drove the church van, picked up and dropped off the saints. He served on the Operation Rescue Team which included feeding the poor in the Philadelphia community. He led services with the young people. He served in the Keystone Jurisdiction for many years using his musical gifts to assist in the choir as well as the services. Billy was never ashamed to reach out to help others and a gentle giant he was. He loved the Lord, his children, grandchildren and his family.
Billy was that of a funny guy who knew how to make people laugh. He made everyone feel special as if they were the only ones who knew everything about him. Little did everyone know that he told everyone the same thing. At other times, he shared his thoughts with his siblings and only they would know what he was talking about.
Billy attended the Philadelphia Public Schools in his younger years and received his high school diploma.
Billy formed a union with Alverta Watkins and married in 1976. Through this union he was blessed to have his son, William Roberts III in 1977, and his daughter Terri Roberts in 1978.
Billy’s life was that of ups and downs. He suffered in his body but kept on moving. However, the Lord delivered him each time. He was determined to become what the Lord wanted him to be. In the end, he did. He did everything he could to make up for lost time his missed. To God be the Glory!
Billy went home to be with Lord, and another champion at rest, Thursday, December 17th, 2020 and now in the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ. We will miss him greatly.
